All great salespeople use a multitude of third party stories during their presentations.  Some are natural born story-tellers but most have worked to develop this skill and follow a set of rules when creating - and telling - third party stories.  Briefly, these rules are:

  • A third party story must serve a purpose – it must either hit a dominant buying motive or answer an objection
  • A third party story should be specific. We should use names, dates and places whenever possible
  • A third party story must be relevant
  • A third party story must be based on truth, and
  • A third party story should in most cases be about a third party.
